Yes, I'm still here...

Wow, May was one of my busiest months on record. June and July were months for celebrating! My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary with a trip to Playa Del Carmen with a group of friends. July, as always was so hot, so we tried to stay near a pool to beat the heat. Our precious Aza turned 1 in July, what a joy she is! She's walking/running these days. My husband, Tim, calls her a little orangutang. It's too cute, she walks with other little arms swinging from side to side. As we start August, I had the pleasure last weekend to photograph one of my past high school senior clients wedding. The wedding, the bride, the groom and the families were absolutely beautiful, so look for lots of pictures soon!

Yes, I do travel to take senior portraits! Last fall, I went to Louisiana and shot a great senior session. I enjoy going and finding unique places to photograph. While we were photographing at a barn, a lady came and almost called the police, she said we couldn't be on her brothers property. It all worked out great, we did get permission, but she didn't know it.
Trevor is a bit of a shy guy and I love a challenge!!! We all had a great time and got some wonderful images for his senior year!

Being from Louisiana, I travel there often! I went last fall to visit family and to photograph Payton's Senior Portraits! We stayed in Welsh, a very small town, to photograph, which is where Payton lives. There were so many great places to shoot which made awesome backgrounds. Payton also played football, so we made it a point to go to the stadium in his football uniform, it was there I doused him with water to get the sweat look....that was fun for me!!!! (he's my Godson!!!)

Well, I did it, I was at the National Tailgate Competition in Ft Worth Feb 3rd and boy was it cold!!! I wore: leggins, jeans, a pair of my honey's socks, insulated socks, my fuzzy boots, 3 sweaters, a coat, a scarf, gloves and a hat!!! Yes it was still cold....16 degrees with a wind chill of -5 or something crazy like that and I would do it again!!! A native Louisianian myself, I really enjoyed the Drago's food! They served up some awesome char-grilled oysters, gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp and grits....Yummie!!! They didn't win, a team from Texas won, Bulls Eye Tailgaters, congratulations guys!! But I do think the team at Drago's had the most fun, see for yourself!!! Tim and I decided to take a little road trip to DeGray Lake for our anniversary this year!!! Wow, it sure is beautiful up there! We spend one day driving on the Talimena Scenic Drive, which goes from Mena, Arkansas to Talihina, Oaklahoma. We stopped at the top of a mountain for a home cooked lunch, which was wonderful!! One night we drove into Hot Springs and walked around downtown for a bit, that was a nice treat!! Here are a few images from the trip, enjoy!!

New York City
I finally did it...I went to New York City!!! OMG, I fell in love with that great city!! So many places to see and so many things to do!! My godson Jonathan wanted to go to NYC for is senior trip, so who am I to say no I won't go there with you, I aim to please!! Jonathan, Charlotte and I squeezed in everything imaginable in 4 days!! Lots and lots of site seeing, shopping, eating (all kinds of foods), rode the subway and the Staten Island Ferry and we went to see "Wicked", Amazing!!!! One memorable trip and I want to go back soon!!

Mabel Wheat ~ Miller's Pharmacy in Cooper TX
Well, Tim came home from work one day and said, "there is an old time soda shop in Cooper TX and there is a lady there that works the ice cream counter and makes everything the old fashion way"!!! So on Saturday afternoon, we jumped in the car and took a ride over to Cooper Texas!! It's about an hour east of Rowlett!! We went not knowing if she would be working, but sure enough, she was there!! We both ordered coke floats!! I thought for a second, maybe I should tell her I want diet coke....hahaha!!!....there's no diet coke there....it's all made from scratch...coke syrup....carbonated water and homemade ice cream, the way a coke float should be made, she'll even add a little chocolate syrup if you'd like a chocolate coke float!! Tim and I sat and enjoyed our floats while visiting with Ms. Mabel! She has been running the ice cream shop since 1951 (I think). As we were leaving, Tim had to get a chocolate malt to go!! If you want a nice family outing, take a leisurely drive over to Cooper Texas and go to Miller's Pharmacy and visit with Ms. Mabel, tell her Tim and Liddie said, "Hi"!! It was sure worth the drive!!

New Orleans Trip
I took a trip to New Orleans for a girls weekend with my friend Susan. We hadn't seen each other in about....oh....10 or more years!! We never missed a beat, we picked up right where we left off. We toured New Orleans, skipped Bourbon Street this trip and made it to Frenchman's Street where the locals go. We went to some great Jazz clubs and listened to some awesome music. It was pouring down rain as we were on our way back to the hotel, but that didn't stop us, we made a stop at www.cafedumonde.com for some yummie beignets!!! We spent one day, just walking around the Quarters photographing and no she isn't a photographer, but she had a great time!!!

The holidays were busy and I promise to post some really awesome stuff soon!!

I'm off to Nashville this weekend to attend Imaging USA!! It's a photography convention with a tradeshow, photography classes to attend and to meet up with my photography friends that I don't get to see often. While I'm there I'll be receiving my Craftsman Degree!! This awesome award is only given a select number of photographers! PPA (Professional Photographers of America) members achieve the degree of Photographic Craftsman (Cr.Photog.) through their committment of service to the profession as an orator, author, or mentor. By giving back to the industry, these PPA members share their knowledge and expertise with those who wish to improve their skills and stay successful in business. I'll be sure to post a few pictures from the ceremony as soon as I return!!

I had such an exciting weekend! My friend Terrell came to Big D for the 49'ers vs Cowboys game. He is a staff photographer for the 49'ers! We started the weekend by taking them out to the Ghost Bar Friday night. Terrell and Bill were kind enough to get Karyn and I on the field to photograph the game. What an opportunity! It was my first time in Texas Stadium. I even got hit in the head with a pom pom. Those cheerleaders really work hard the whole game and were so nice! Enjoy the show!

Austin came in for his Senior portraits last week. He scheduled a session with some studio time and on location. Well, it was raining that day, so we were only able to shot in the studio. I went to a photography class reunion in Illinois and had a blast!! It was held at Jed and Vicki Taufer's studio in Morton, IL. They surprised us with a rope obstacle course 100 ft in the air. It was very challenging, boy do I love a challenge. We all exchanged business ideas and learned alot from each other. The owner of my lab was there to answer any questions we might have and took us all out for dinner one night!!

I took a little vacation to California with my best bud Karyn, who lives in Dallas now, but is from California. There is nothing better than to go to California with a native Californian!! Karyn was a great tour guide!! We shopped a farmers market and bought some of the best fruit I have ever tasted, we went to Sausalito and Tiburon one day and visited with Terrell, a good friend of ours, we went to the beach at Bodega Bay, to Karyn's 30th high school reunion, wine tasting , meet up with some bikers from Korea, (really nice guys), then spent our last day going all over San Francisco. Then on my flight home as we landed at DFW the plane had a tire blowout!! We had to wait while the fire trucks came to check the tires out, before we could taxi in. It was none stop fun for 5 days, and all 5 days were a blast!! I hope you enjoy my video of California!! Oh, by the way, our thing is to take kissey face pictures of ourselves, I know we are a bit goofy!!

The Dallas Professional Photographers had a Ladies Retreat last weekend in Jefferson, Texas. We had a great time pampering ourselves. We had our nails done, did some shopping and even photographed a little. My best bud, Karyn brought her beautiful daughter Caitey with her. She was an awesome model. We photographed her at the cemetery in Jefferson. We also went to Caddo Lake and took a boat ride. We all had a great time!!!

27th Wedding Anniversary

Tim and I recently celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary!! Our children, Casey and Brad gave us a weekend at a Bed & Breakfast in Gruene, TX (New Braunfels) We stayed at the Gruene Mansion Inn. The famous Gruene Hall was right next door , which had live bands playing during the day. We shopped the antiques stores and a few boutiques! It was great to spend some quality time together!! Sorry it's been a while since I've posted. It's been busy around here. I spent all last week at a law firm shooting headshots. I know it sounds boring, but I had a great time at K & L Gates!! They were all so nice and great to work with.
Sarah came in for a recent session. The first time I photographed Sarah was about 3 years ago. An image from that first session was my first print to win an award. I enter prints in my local photography guild as well as nationally. The first two images are a couple from her recent session.Elle (pronounced "L") came in for her 4 year session. We had a great time playing and getting some fantastic images. These girls have eyes that will make you melt!!

Kacey is a senior at Rockwall High, we met in Rockwall for a few images then came back to the studio. Then I decided I wanted a few more with his brand new Car!! So we went outside again.
Candrea came into the studio for her session. She's in the band at Rowlett High, and plays the drums. How cool is that!!
Caitlin is a senior at Rowlett High and is in the drill team there. I can't wait, their spring show is coming up April 12th. I went last year and it was fantastic!! We shot for awhile in the studio then headed outside for her session.

It's been a busy couple of weeks!! Here are some of my recent sessions!
Caylee came in this morning for her senior portraits and of course it was raining!! It wasn't suppose to, so we headed to downtown Dallas in hopes of it clearing up. It didn't clear up, so we had fun with it. We went to Target and bought a couple of umbrellas and galoshes and started shooting!! We even poured water on her to get her hair all wet. She was so cold, but never complained!! What a great model!!
Cody played football at Rockwall High and is now into his baseball season there too. He was fun to shoot! As you can see he has a great smile. You can't help but smile with him!!
Sara came in yesterday, (the windy day) for her 3 hour shoot! We did some fun images in the studio then headed downtown Dallas. The wind gave us a very short break every now and then.
These young ladies are the best, they never complain. They just do whatever I ask them to do!! I am so impressed with how well they model!!
Alex is from Rockwall High, he came in for a studio session at the beginning of the week. He is a wrestler for Rockwall High, and he tells me , they did pretty good this year!! I'd say 5th in state is pretty good!!Ashley is from Wylie High, we met on Saturday for her Deep Ellum shoot. She is into books, to I thought we would incorporate that into her session.

I just returned from a photography convention in Vegas, WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International). As always, I had a great time and learned so much. You can never learn enough in this industry. I was able to spend some time with my Canon rep's, in my opinion, the best photography equipment out there today!! With some talent and great equipment, I get some of the most amazing images!
I don't think I have ever talked about my equipment. I shoot with a Canon 5D and use only the best Canon L series lenses,
70-200m 2.8 (my fav!) and the 24-70m 2.8. I plan on trying out the 85m 1.2 in the near future. I'll post some images from it when I test it out. By the way, this Vegas image was shot with my new baby Canon camera, the powershot SX100 IS, you can even shoot in manual with this little point and shoot. Automatic or program just confuses me, I need to be in control of what I shoot.

I finished my Saturday off by meeting Rachel on location for her senior portraits. She is a senior at Plano East. We had a great time finding new locations to photograph. I went a little early, because I hadn't photographed at the location we were meeting at, so I wanted to go and look around a bit. I always advise my seniors to bring more than the clothing changes they are allowed, so I can pick the best clothes for the senior and background. We really lucked out with great places to photograph. The first one was the last place we photographed, a parking garage!! It was so fun to try something new!!

When I'm photographing someone, I always ask my subjects their opinion and ask if there is anything special they want to do. I love it when they give me full reign! He did whatever I asked him to do. What a great guy!!

Julia is a senior at Rowlett High, she came in for a 3 hours session. We started at the studio, then went to Rockwall and played around outside. I think Julia wins the prize for the most clothes brought to a session. I think it's great!! I love being able to look through all the clothes and picking out the best outfits for the backgrounds. You know by now, the clothes must match the backgrounds.

OMG!! I was honored to help a fellow photographer photograph the Van Cliburn 50th Anniversary celebration in Fort Worth Saturday night. It was quite an elaborate event, unbeknown to me, Chicago was the entertainment for the night!! We were photographing the final events to the celebration and Rob (photographer) said, Chicago is going to start playing. What a great suprise!
I was up front with all the attendees enjoying the great music and taking advantage of these great shots!

Last week was guy week!! I photographed 2 guys last week. It was a great week! Nick met me at the studio first then we went outside for some great images of him for his senior portraits.
He is planning on going to Baylor after high school, so we had to get an image of him with his Baylor shirt. He did a great job, very handsome.

Yeah!! I finally got my new website up!! It was a stressful couple of days. My email was down to at least 2 days, which felt like 2 weeks. I met with MacKenzie yesterday for her senior portraits. I think she was the fastest girl to change clothes ever. We were able to get in so many clothing changes into her 3 hour session. She did a great job with so many different expressions. I love the moody expressions!!!

Anna is from Forney, she met me at Harry Myers park in Rockwall for her senior portraits, then we came back to the studio for some cool black and whites and white on white shots. This was the morning the wind was blowing so hard, we had to cut her outside session short, but she is coming back for a few more outside images. She handled the wind like a pro, (meaning a professional model)!

I met Sarah in Rockwall for her senior portraits. We had a really good time. She wanted something fun, so she brought beads and shoes on her session. I think she has a bead problem... I loved it! We found this cool greenish rusty wall and the iron chair was there too, so we took advantage of it and used it!

You know how I love to match the background with the seniors outfits, well we took this image,

Jill came in last week for her 3 hours session, which by the way is my favorite session. It allows me the time to get to know the senior. I love to bring out their personalities. Jill knew what I wanted her to do before her session was over. She was great in front of the camera, a real natural!

The Emery Family

The Emery's came in for family portraits last week. Diane and I met at a photography seminar about 5 years ago. I know everyone has a friend like this, you don't talk very often, but when you do it's great to catch up and it's not awkward at all. Diane is having major surgery very soon and wanted to have family portraits taken before the surgery. It was such a pleasure to be a part of their family memories.
I hope you all know how much I love my job!! It comes a time in every photographers lifetime, when they realize, how special their job really is. We make memories each and every day and I wouldn't change that for the world.

I just got back from Tampa, Fl. from a photography convention. I met some really cool people while I was there, Bob Davis, Oprah Winfrey's personal photographer, Matthew Jordan Smith, a photographer on America's Next Top Model and Terrell Lloyd, staff photographer for the 49er's. (Terrell is good friends with my friend Karyn). I always get inspired when I go to a convention or photography seminar, I come home ready to go.
Carissa came in this morning for her Senior portraits!! Yes, it was cold....but she was a trooper and handled the cold weather with ease. I love to find backgrounds that compliment the Seniors clothes. They go to so much trouble finding the right outfits, I want them to stand out and look fantastic. And she sure does!!! Thanks Carissa, you were a great model!!

The year is ending on a good note...
I shot Shannon and Jeremy's engagement session the other day. The wedding is in a couple of weeks. I can't wait, they are such a great couple. They brought their dog, Dante, on the shoot. He was so excited, we were shooting by a little pond that had ducks in it. I think he would have jumped in if he didn't have his leash on. Watch for the wedding soon!!
